Hong Depot.

We finally tried Hong Depot in West End last Friday night and it was so good!
Being a Korean BBQ restaurant, it was fairly meat-heavy but the vego options were easily vegan-able.
We got the vego combination BBQ and it included a HUGE plate of marinated veggies and tofu (that you BBQ yourself at the table), a bowl of rice with veggies and seaweed (that you roll into rice balls yourself), a mushroom/veggie salad thingy, raw veggies and kimichi pancake (which I asked about three hundred times and it definitely had no animal products).
The serving could have fed three people and was $39.
I loved it and will definitely be going back with all my friends in tow!

Here are the hot coals they brought over with side salads.

Here is me, having a bit TOO much fun making the rice balls.

Finished rice balls. YUM.

The marinated veggies and tofu arrive.

Tofu, corn, asparagus, mushrooms, pumpkin, potato and capsicum!

The mushroom salad thing that I forgot it's name. It was tasty.

Kimichi pancakes were crispy and fried and DELICIOUS!

Some amazing condiments came out too, we cleaned those bowls out pretty well :)

Vegan Era

It's been a while...

I've met some great people through my make up course at the Academy of Makeup.
Ann Lodberg (a student/model from my class) asked me to help her help a friend out.

The segment being filmed was a story for Today Tonight featuring Amanda Rootsey (eco model/co-founder of Vegan Era) & her partner David Rafter (Earth Hour nominee/environmentalist/co-founder of Vegan Era).
Two beautiful vegans & their beautiful vegan dog, Trudy.

(Among other things) they have a blog/organisation/fashion label called Vegan Era which raises awareness and offers support for those making the change to a vegan lifestyle. Here's the facebook page.
They're hosting a free seminar on Tues 6th Dec 6pm @ Albion Peace Centre.
There'll be amazing vegan treats and free Vegan Era packs for those who attend.

...Got anyone you want to convert?

Bread crumb surprise.

A surprise, in a bad way.
Woollies Home Brand bread crumbs have fish gelatine in them!
Weird, gross, lame.
So heads up!

Asparagus and White Bean Pesto Tart.

My tart may not look as exciting as the one here but oh it was a tasty treat!
I bought a food processor just for the occasion and it was worth it.
The bean/pesto paste was delicious and once covered in fresh asparagus and baked - win.
I served it with steamed veggies (kind of over salad at the moment).
Tossed a tasty vinegarette over the veggies;
  • Olive oil
  • White vinegar
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Fresh minced garlic
  • A big dollop of wholegrain mustard
  • S&P and;
  • A pinch of raw sugar

Total win again Vegan Yum Yum - you delicious genius!

Here is the recipe for the most amazing chocolate cheesecake ever!

Dia’s Vegan Chocolate Cheesecake

So delicious and easy!

I just use Tofutti instead of making my own, and only use one 200g tub.

Broccoli Dal.

Another Vegan Yum Yum win tonight!
This dal was really a soup so I served it accompanied with my favourite cheats pan bread.
Throw a slice of Pampas reduced fat pastry into a pan then wash with oil and sprinkle with fresh garlic and salt.
Once if puffs flip it over then when that side puffs, press it until the under side is golden.
That's it, it takes a few minutes and is great/cheap and sooooo stupidly tasty.

Chilli Lime Tofu.

I bought Vegan Yum Yum when I did the Vegan Easy Challenge in March.
Although I have stayed vegan since, I have only made one dish from the book!
So this week I am trying some newbies to add to my ever-expanding dinner favourites.
Tonight I made chilli lime tofu with steamed Chinese broccoli and snow peas on quinoa.
It was, AMAZING.
The sauce was all chilli/lime/soy/garlicy perfection and super tasty.
You can find the recipe here.
You'll love it, trust me!

Kellogs Nutri Grain is vegan and delicious.

Original Source.

Original Source products are all cruelty-free.
They also smell AMAZING and the mint feels icy cold and refreshing in your hair.
I love it.

Junky take-away.

UPDATE AUGUST 18 2013 - Nandos veggie burgers are no longer vegan.

I have done extensive research into this one.
Hungry Jacks veggie patties have cheese in them, so even asking for no mayo or cheese is a no go (which is lame cause they are delicious!)
Nandos however have great vegan veggie burgers (asking for no mayo of course) and the peri peri chips are an epic win.
I eat a faiiiiir bit of those...
Anyways, Oporto veggie burgers are vegan (minus the mayo/cheese) and they are a very tasty treat.
Pizza Hut and Dominos have dairy in their pizza sauce, so no escaping that.
Eagle Boys however is great as their sauce (and therefore dairy-free veggie pizzas) is vegan and they're the tastiest pizza chain anyways.
So yeah, your diabetes can thank me later but your tastebuds can thank me now!

P.S yes there is cheese on that Eagle Boys pizza pic, but use your imagination people :)

Bucket Boss MULLET BUSTER Nylon Toolbelts

Who says you can't be super tough AND animal friendly?
I just got my new animal-free tool belt in the mail today. It's insanely tough.. I mean TUFF!
And yes, it's ACTUALLY CALLED THE MULLET BUSTER!
It also come with 'Testosterone Fueled Styling'... Bonus!
It's from a company called 'Bucket Boss'. I looked up their website (which has virtually nothing on it), clicked on the Mullet Buster link, and it says:
WTF. Is it some sort of anti-leather statement or are they taking the piss?
Either way, it's the only professional quality leather free one I could find. You can order them online at http://www.dankeltools.com.au/
Yay!

Arnotts Roadies.

The new chilli flavored Roadies are vegan, and delicious.

Brown Brothers.

Most wines are clarified with eggs, milk and fish bladder.
This is annoying.
Brown Brothers however are totally awesome and often (but not always) don't use animal products in their clarification process.
If they can do it and make amazing tasting wine, why can't everyone?
Until then, I am fairly sure I'm finding the Brown Brothers empire.

Sakata.

With so many chips and crackers containing cheese powder it can be hard to find junky/party snacks that vegans can enjoy.
I've eaten maaaaaaany bags of original Kettle chips and plain salted crackers.
I found Sakata whole grain crackers on the weekend, the smokey BBQ flavour was vegan!
I can't find a pic though so here, behold original whole grain sakata crackers.
The smokey BBQ ones were very tasty and a welcomed change.

Actually, while on the topic - BBQ flavoured shapes and Peckish salt'n'vinegar Thins are vegan, woo!

Whittakers orange chocolate.

Yes this is a whole post dedicated to Whittakers orange chocolate.
It seems I left it off my fave chocolate post (clearly I was delirious to make such a mistake).
Anyways it's awesome and rich with chewy orange pieces!
Thank you Whittakers for making delicious dairy-free chocolate :)

Loving Hut.

It's no secret that we all love Loving Hut.
I mean, it's only the tastiest place on earth (earth = Brisbane).
Deep fried salt and pepper mushroom, garlic butter cutlets, creamy carbonara, lasagne, crispy chow mein noodles, steamed veggie buns, cream cheese wontons... oh how the list goes on.
Tonight was salt'n'pepper shroom, polenta with napoli veggies and garlic butter cutlets on cous cous with veggies.
YUMBO.

Umm.. Vegan BOOZE anyone?

THIS IS SO GREAT.
Check it out for yourself - I need not say any more.
